“Exposed to the Elements” by UK-based artist Julie Edwards.
This oil painting is part of Julie Edwards’ “Landscapes” series. Expressive paintings on emotive landscapes that record hints and elements of either figures or transient objects, touching and forever moving either steadily in time or fleetingly with the changeable landscape in a semi-abstract way.
In this series of landscapes, Julie places the viewer into the painting to experience each landscape. Either within a meditative painting process or simply through the thrill of using different media, including subtle use of unconventional materials such as varnishes, hammerite, pens etc.
The works are borne out of the accumulation of many references: places visited, nostalgia, literature, traces, and a spiritual response to the ephemeral nature of light, resulting in something either beautiful or peaceful. Or creating an uneasy landscape where the tensions are shown by the vast, bleak wilderness of it all.
