“Balance, The Bear And The Nightingale” by UK artist Julie Edwards
Julie Edwards explains that her painting “Balance, The Bair And The Nightingale” is inspired by the book by Katherine Arden. “Not a book I would normally choose to read. But it is a beautiful and deep, winter story full of tales of sorcery, folklore and old magic frowned, upon by the church. What intrigued me was this idea of balance between the real and the spiritual world. One of the hidden depths, rituals, customs, folklore, and beliefs.”
This oil and mixed media painting is part of Julie’s “Balance” series. Finding a balance between contrast, layers, random and controlled line. Softness and dynamism, realism and abstraction, memory or stories.
Meeting the artist
For our Meeting the Artist blog series, we met Julie Edwards in her studio in Wolverhampton, UK. We talked about what inspires her as an artist, her background, and brought her story home to you. You can read all about this visit in our “Meeting the Artist” Blog. Perhaps you are also interested in reading about other artists. For example the German expressionist artist Bea Garding Schubert, or Colombia-based UK painter Charley Jones.
We hope you enjoy!
